I Made Pop Tarts!

These are my homemade Pop Tarts! I found the original recipe on Sally's Baking Addiction but I tweaked it.

Fresh Salsa!

Image
As you know, Hunny has been gardening up a storm and we have a bumper crop of tomatoes this year. He asked me the other day to come up with a salsa recipe and to try making it. So, I found one on Simply Recipes that is so easy to make and tasted delicious! I used the cayenne peppers that Hunny grew, but only put in one, so I was told that was not enough heat for him. What I love about making your own salsa is that you can tailor it to your tastes and make it hotter or milder, whichever you prefer! Plus, you know exactly what is in it since you are making it yourself. Here's the recipe- 2-3 medium sized fresh tomatoes (from 1 lb to 1 1/2 lb), stems removed 1/2 red onion 2 serrano chiles or 1 jalapeño chile (stems, ribs, seeds removed), less or more to taste (Like I said I used cayenne peppers. I liked it with one, but the next batch is having 4!) Juice of one lime 1/2 cup chopped cilantro Salt and pepper to taste Pinch of dried oregano (crumble in your fingers befor...

Doodle's Favorite Cake

Image
Other than the to die for Chocolate cake, this is my middle daughter's favorite cake. I use the Paula Deen recipe on Food Network every time and it is wonderful! And you MUST use the cream cheese frosting with this cake. It's a sin not to. Red Velvet Cake is a southern staple from what I understand. (I am a transplanted Yankee, remember.) The first time I made this, the kids went insane. So, make this to drive your family insane! The only thing I do differently than in this recipe is I don't do 3 layers. I only do 2. It still comes out wonderful. For the Red Velvet Cake: 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon cocoa 1 1/2 cups sugar 2 eggs 1 1/2 cups oil 1 teaspoon vinegar 1 (1-ounce) bottle red food coloring 1 teaspoon vanilla 1 cup buttermilk For the cream cheese frosting: 1/2 cup butter 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese 1 box confectioners' sugar, sifted 1/2 teaspoon vanilla 1 cup chopped lightly toasted pecans Di...

( You can find it here. ) At that time, they shared their lovely lemons with me. This time, they have oranges!

Very Cute Handmade Valentines!

Image
Isn't this an adorable idea for a Valentine's present? I found it over at Thirtyhandmadedays . It's so simple and would cost probably less than 5$ so perfect if you're on a budget! You can check out the instructions on their website. Your supplies would be a small bit of fabric, embroidery thread, an embroidery needle, and a picture frame. My husband did this at our favorite campsite a few years back. I thought it was so sweet! A little corny, but I loved it. This is also an adorable idea!  From VisualHeart , you'll find the instructions on how to do this easy idea. There's a printable for the 52 things that you mod podge onto the cards. I thought this was adorable! It's so simple! A mason jar filled with vegetable oil and you place a black and white picture of you and your honey in it. The oil will preserve it! You can also add some dried lavender to it to make it smell lovely! Check it out on  Shannon Eileen Blog Now this idea you can do two w...

Dinner Tonight!

Image
So, I am attempting to cut back on us eating out so much and getting back to cooking from scratch more. I'm really liking how many recipes I've been finding on Facebook lately. And don't forget my fave fall back Pinterest! Tonight's recipe I found on Facebook and it's from  BuzzFeed . It seems to me to be a version of chicken pot pie but with a biscuit topping. I don't have frozen mixed veggies or biscuits in a can, but I do have carrots, potatoes, celery and biscuit mix. I figure I will do the rest of the recipe and make these substitutions. And instead of putting the biscuits on top, I'll do drop biscuits. I'll update after dinner and let you know what everyone thought! 6 tablespoons butter 1 onion, chopped ½ cup flour 3 cups chicken broth 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon pepper 1 cup heavy cream 2½ cups frozen mixed vegetables 1 rotisserie chicken, shredded 2 tubes biscuit dough (8 biscuits each) PREPARATION 1. Preheat oven to 350˚F/180˚C. ...

Pizza Night!

Image
Since Bubby had a friend over tonight, Doodle was home and Hunny was craving pizza, I decided to make homemade pizza! I think I have found the best and easiest pizza dough recipe. I tweaked it a little to fit my tastes, but the basic dough is so simple! I found it on  AllRecipes.com . Here's the basic dough that makes one pizza that is about 8 pieces. I want to say a medium pizza. Or 2 calzones. 1 envelope yeast 1 cup warm water (lukewarm, not too hot, not too cold) 1 teaspoon sugar 2 1/2 cups flour (I think it called for bread flour, I just used all purpose) 2 Tablespoons olive oil 1 teaspoon salt Put the warm water in a bowl and sprinkle in the yeast and sugar. Mix and then let sit about 10 minutes or until creamy and foamy. Next add the flour, olive oil and salt. I also added about 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning and 1 teaspoon garlic powder at this step. Mix. This will be sticky. In the recipe, it said to turn out onto a floured surface and pat or roll into a round. I...

Who Wants Billion Dollar Brows?

Image
**This is a sponsored post. I received product in exchange for my honest, unbiased opinions. All thoughts and feelings are my own** I am so excited over this! Billion Dollar Brows  has these kits, the Best Sellers Kit and 60 Seconds to Beautiful Brows. Now, I like to wear makeup, but am no makeup artist, believe me. Not even close. My makeup routine is about 5 minutes long and consists of eyeliner, eyeshadow, mascara and powder. So, I was skeptical about using these, thinking it was going to be difficult and I wouldn't be able to do it right. I was so wrong! Let's start with the Best Sellers Kit.

Pumpkin Spice Cake!

Image
This was Doodle's birthday cake. She is a pumpkin nut! Anything pumpkin this girl goes crazy for! I had never made a pumpkin spice cake, but found this one on Joy Of Baking. Very simple. I didn't have cloves, but it still came out tasting like a pumpkin pie! Even I liked it and I am not as in love with pumpkin as her! Here's the recipe-- 1/2 cup soft butter 1 1/4 cup packed brown sugar 2 eggs 1 cup pumpkin 1 teaspoon vanilla 2 cups flour (They call for cake flour but I used all purpose and it came out fine) 1/4 teaspoon baking powder 1 teaspoon baking soda 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon ginger 1/8  teaspoon cloves 1/2 cup buttermilk (I just put a little vinegar in 1/2 cup milk and it does the same) Beat butter and sugar together until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing after each addition. Add pumpkin and vanilla. Mix well. Stir together the dry ingredients and add alternatively with the buttermilk, mixing after each additio...

I Found A Kindred Spirit!

Image
As you have noticed on my blog, I am an old fashioned kind of gal. If you haven't noticed that, you haven't read my soapbox posts. I am. I believe in old school values, old school gender roles, pretty much, if it happened before 1960, I'm all about it. It's hard to find women nowadays who share this old fashioned kind of view. But, I found this blog The 50's Housewife where I have found many women, including the author who is like minded. She wrote an article today about 5 reasons modern day women are turning to old fashioned ways. She has cleaning schedules and marriage help, you name it. I am very inspired by her and love her blog. Go check it out!

Scentbird.com Review!

Image
**I received product in exchange for my 100% honest review** Have you heard of Scentbird.com ? It is this new website where you sign up and for 14.95 a month, they will send you a new purse size perfume every month! And these aren't off brand ones, either! The one they sent me was Daisy by Marc Jacobs, which I'm in love with now! When you sign up with them, you take a cute personality quiz so that they can figure out what your "scent personality" is. Then they send you a choice every month. Or you can choose what you want and place your choices in your "boudoir". You can even set up your queue so you know which perfume is coming. I think this is such a fun idea and a great way to try out all the latest fragrances. They have name brands like Dolce & Gabbana, Burberry, Versace, and Clinique to just name a few! The possibilities are endless! Definitely check them out!
