Guess What Today Is?

Image
It's Registration Day. And it's the last year I have to go to the elementary school. I have been going to the elementary school every year since it opened! Izzie was the first Kindergarten class to go through that school. I'm not going to know what to do next year only going to the middle and high schools! And then after that, only one school! Doodle is really excited and Bubby isn't. I think he is a little because he'll get to see his friends, but he's not as big on school as Doodle is. And then Monday is their first day! Tuesday Izzie moves back! It's a happy but bittersweet time. I will post pics later!

Tax Free Weekend!

Image
Here in Virginia, this weekend is the tax-free weekend. For those who don't know, the tax-free weekend is when you can buy clothes and school supplies and have no tax charged on those purchases. Which, when you buy for 2 or more children, really adds up. I figured I would post about some tips I have for surviving this weekend. 1. Expect it to take wayyy longer than you would think. The crowds are worse on this weekend. Wear comfortable shoes, take snacks and something for the 10 year old to play with while you are shopping for the teenaged girl. He will get bored. If you don't have a 10 year old boy, continue to next tip! 2. Have a game plan. Not a strict game plan, but some idea of what stores you want to go to and what you want to buy. Which leads me to #3 3. Have a budget. This is very important. Bubby and I are already having wars because I refuse to spend an arm and a leg on shoes for him. I swear he has Miracle Gro in his shoes with how fast he's growing. Last ...

What I did yesterday...

I went with Bubby and his class to Jamestown! I have never been since I couldn't go when the girls went in 4th grade. But this is a really neat museum! It's broken up into parts that you walk through and they have different period actors. There are Indians walking around, sailors from the time and people living in the settlement. You can go through real Indian houses, see how they cooked, made leather, wove baskets.  Then you can go on the Susan Constant and see the Godspeed and the Discovery. I think you can go on the Godspeed and Discovery but we got to tour the Susan Constant. Which I didn't realize, those are real ships that they take on trips sometimes. The sailor we talked to said they have been up to NY and all different places. I just couldn't imagine living on that for 4 months. Amazing. Then in the Fort, you get to see the Governor's house, a Blacksmith building, the Church, where Pocahontas was married, and you get to see a musket demonstration. Tha...

Box Tops for Education

Image
I wanted to take a minute and get everyone with children in school to sign up for this program! My kids' elementary school, which all 3 have gone through, has been signed up with them for a while now and the money that they raise from this program goes towards the library. These box tops come on all kinds of products now and it's so easy to just clip them and send them in. I believe the school gets like .10 per square but think about how many kids are in the school and if they all send these in, how quickly that adds up! Plus I love that Food Lion now has a program where you link your Food Lion card to Box Tops and when you buy certain products, it goes to the school of your choice. So go here- Boxtops4education- and make sure your school is signed up and start saving them today!
