Our Jobs As Women

Image
I want to pose a question to all the mamas and wives out there who read my little blog-do you build up each other or tear each other down? I have been mulling this over for a while now and have noticed the "great divide" between women- working moms to stay at home moms, formula moms to breastfeeding moms, organic moms to non-organic moms, meat eaters to vegans, the list goes on. What I don't think I will ever understand is the judgement and harshness from one side to the other. I have encountered this many times when I meet people and they ask me what I do. I respond, "I'm a housewife." Sometimes I get cheeky and say "Domestic engineer" because it sounds more grown up. But, inevitably, the response I get is, "Oh, you don't have a real job?" or something along those lines. I will never forget the time a woman whom I had known for quite a while, who had been a stay at home mom turned working mom, told me that I didn't have an ide...

Cookbooks-A Rant

As a stay at home wife and mom, I cook. I cook pretty well, much better than I did when we were first married, but I'm no gourmet chef by any means.

As If Moving Wasn't Hard Enough....

So after all that we went through with the mortgage broker to get the okay to put an offer in on that house, we had to pull the offer. For some reason only known to the seller, he doesn't seem to want to sell even though his house is on the market. We put in one offer, he tells us he can't close until December 1. So, we change it to Dec 1. He comes back and says no, he can't be out until December 15. We change it again to accommodate this and within hours the real estate agent comes back and advises us that we should go ahead and pull the offer because even though we are doing everything this man has asked for, he still "needs more time". Now we are back to square one. The good part though, is that the buyer of our house is very flexible and is working with us so we won't be without a home. Please say some prayers that the house we are supposed to buy will show up soon. We are scouring the MLS and craigslist and everything we can think of to find one. Finge...

Whenever Hubby is out of town for an extended amount of time, something has to break that I can't fix. This time it's our water heater. (I couldn't find a pic of a vintage water heater but found this of plumbers!) This water heater was fairly new when we moved in 11 or so years ago. Last year Hubby had to replace an element because we only had lukewarm water. So, we thought we were good for a little while. Nope. I guess the other element has decided to quit on us now. So we have lukewarm water and if we use too much of the lukewarm water we don't have any warm water for at least an hour or so. And Hubby won't be home until Friday. Yippee! So, we are making do until then. I figure if I can't stand the thought of a lukewarm/cold shower, I will call my trusty sister in law and go to her house. Hubby did say that this time we are buying a whole brand new heater. Then maybe we won't have to worry about it for another 11 years!  I'm trying to look on the bri...
